A while back; several times actually; I told Denise that I wanted a reclining chair in the Mission or Craftsman style, something with nice flat wooden arm rests, leather cushioning, and classic Mission styling that I could relax in after a day of the hard work of being retired. And she never forgot it. Yesterday evening Denise, being the voracious researcher that she is, found just that chair for sale on Craigslist, a free-for-all milieu with which I am familiar, having sold thousands of dollars of goods thereon and on which I have a few saved searches.
I didn’t want to follow up on the posting she showed me. So much trouble to go see it, how am I going to get it home if I like it, I mean it won’t fit in the trunk of my car even if I do like it, and so on. Really. But this morning I drove to North Portland to see it, you know, to please Denise, and with a plan to pass it up as soon as I saw it. I had already made up my mind against it.
But I liked it. I sat in it. It fit me. I paid the lady half up front, and then went to the local U-Haul place and rented a truck. I hauled the chair back to our apartment and it is in our living room as I speak. Denise. She likes me more than I like myself. God bless this wonderful lady who has brought so much contentment to my life.
